Obituary of Clementina Belvedere

Belvedere, Clementina It is with profound sadness that the family of Clementina Belvedere (Luciani) announce her passing. Clementina, a dedicated wife, mother and loving Grandmother & Great-Grandmother, ended her courageous battle with cancer at the Port Colborne Urgent Care Centre on September 1st, 2010, her loved ones by her side. Clementina resided in Port Colborne, Ontario where she emmigrated to and lived since 1953. Clementina was born on October 15, 1926 in Castropignano, Italy, the daughter of the late Rosario & Maria-Domenica Luciani (D'Onofrio). Beloved & devoted wife to Carmine Belvedere for 65 years (October 2010), of Port Colborne, Ontario. . Surviving children are Marie Vanderlaan (Jack) of Port Colborne; Lucy Belvedere of Burlington; Lina VanEsch (Mike) of Port Colborne; Ralph Belvedere (Laverne) of Victoria B.C. and John Belvedere of Toronto. Surviving are 12 Grandchildren, Lisa MacPherson (Wayne); Leanne Vanderlaan; Kristina Dervaitis (Barry Atack); Daniel Dervaitis (Rena Al-Samedi); Amanda Cassan (Matt); Laura Cassan (Jim); Christopher VanEsch (Meridy); Rebecca Dervaitis; Steven VanEsch (Patricia); Kevin Vanesch (Andrena); Matthew Belvedere (Kyla) and Mark Belvedere. Surviving 10 Geat-Granchildren are, Ashley and Alyssa MacPherson, Jacob and Regean Cassan, Allenah Vanderlaan and Abby Bradley, Emmett and Fraiser Cassan, Sophie and Leah Dervaitis. Also, she is survived by her sister Carmina Greggio of Port Colborne and Uncle Nunzio D'Onofrio (Giovinna) of Welland. Clementina is predeceased by her brother Angelo Luciani and nephew Nicola Luciani, both of Castropignano, Italy and her niece Mary Little (Luciani) of Fenwick, Ontario. As well, we pray and remember all our extended family, gone before at home and abroad. Clementina and her family, Celebrated their Catholic faith at St. John Bosco Church from the time they came to Canada. Clementina spent her early days to build a new life, working hard, as a giving homemaker, and at farms picking fruits & vegetables and at various canning factories. In her latter years of work, she spent time as one of the first employees, working at Port Colborne Poultry, her son-in-law, Jack Vanderlaan's family business. As a dedicated gardener Clementina, grew much of her family's produce through long hot summer months with her husband by her side. From lush harvests, delicious sauce and preserves accompanied her wonderful love to cook and feed her family, close and extended. She spent many years, loving and celebrating life with her family as it grew, nurturing them with her strength and generosity, her loving and gentle, yet firm, values, and of course, her cooking. The Belvedere family will welcome visitors to pay respects and share memories at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 179 Clarence Street Port Colborne, ON. on Friday, September 3rd during the hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Vigil prayers will be observed on Friday at Armstrong's at 2 p.m. A Mass for Christian Burial will celebrated at St. John Bosco R.C. Church on Saturday September 4th at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Croal officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Port Colborne, ON. Thanks to all family and friends who supported and were able to visit while battling her illness. Before her passing, Clementina, asked that her numerous caregivers be thanked and acknowledged. Especially Dr Michael Levesque of St. Catharines General Hospital and the Palliative Care Ward there; Dr. Okawara of the Juravinski Cancer Centre; home-care nurse Tracy of St Elizabeth Health Care Services. Dr. Janusz Aleksiejuk at the Port Urgent Care Facilities, as well as Sue Campbell, NP. To all the nurses at the Port Colborne Urgent Care Centre, especially, Lori, Diane, Marcia, Nancy, Marcy, Doris and Andrea. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Port Colborne Hospital Foundation are preferred.
