Obituary of Donald William Harris

Harris, Donald William It is with great sadness the family announces his passing on February 28, 2021 at the Douglas Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Grace (née Roy). Loving father of Donald Jr. (Karen), Elmer (Lisa), Kelly, Cindy Horne (Michael) & Vicky Harris (Richard Stanley). Don will be missed by his 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Survived by his brother David Harris (Kathy). Predeceased by his parents Rheta & William, and by his sister Joan. Don was born on December 21, 1936 in Hagersville, ON and came to the Niagara area when he was a young boy. After he married he settled in Wainfleet, where he has resided for the past 50 years. When he was a teenager, Don worked with his father drilling for gas until being hired by Atlas Steel as a chemist technician, where he was known as “Doc”. After retirement, he started a renovation business and worked until he was 77 years old. Don was a devoted member of the Wainfleet Lions Club for over 35 years and served as president several times. He loved to fish and hunt, especially at his cottage in South River, which he and his close friend built together. Don was a strong family leader and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Arrangements entrusted to the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private family Funeral Service in the Armstrong Chapel.
