Obituary of Maria Forte

It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Forte announce her passing on April 12, 2019 in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Mario Forte – 2015. Loving mother of Felice (Gail) of Toronto, Frank (Alison) of Calgary, Elsa (Rick) McAllister of Welland and Patricia (Darlis)  Forte of Waterloo. Proud grandmother “Nonna” of Stacey (Ryan) Miller, William, Katie (Craig) Martin,  Rob (Julia), Julian and Seaton. Predeceased by her parents Innocenzo and Raffaela Ferrara and by her siblings Vittoria (Alesio) Giancola, Renato (Angela) Ferrara, Guglielmo (Marietta) Ferrara, Archille (Diletta) Ferrara, Doretta (Enrico) Cifelli and Ersilia (Antonio) DeFilippis. Maria was born in Castelpetroso, Italy on November 24, 1937. She married the love of her life, Mario, in 1957. They immigrated to Canada in 1961, and settled in Port Colborne in 1965. Maria was a loving mother and wife who devoted her life to her family. It was her greatest joy to be with the ones she loved. Both Maria and Mario always placed their children’s happiness ahead of their own, providing a home for their family to flourish. She took great pride in cooking Sunday feasts, always looking forward to visits with extended family and friends. In the last years of her life, Maria struggled with pain but never gave in to the debilitating advance of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Maria’s family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday April 16, 2019 at St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Father Michael Andrysiak officiating. Rite of Committal to follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends, family and loved ones can offer a donation, in lieu of flowers to the Arthritis Society or St. Therese of Lisieux.
