Joan Lennie

Obituary of Joan Lennie

August 23, 1934 – May 16, 2017

It is with much sadness that we announce the painful loss of Joan, a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother on Tuesday, May 16 th , 2017 surrounded by the love of her family at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Always knowing that she was a strong woman, she exhibited immense strength during her short, but courageous battle. Joan will be deeply missed by the love of her life of 61 years, John Lennie. Joan is predeceased by her eldest daughter, Avril Wilshire (Peter), but a piece of Joan’s heart is finally mended, seeing her again. She will be sadly missed by her surviving children, Tracey Ottaviano (Bruno) and Johnnie Lennie, as well as her grandchildren, Lauren Wilshire, Brittany Sergnese (Christopher), Paige Ottaviano and Thalia Ottaviano (Mark) and her great grandchild, Masimiliano Sergnese. Also left to grieve are her siblings Sandi Hockings (Herb), Anne White (Jim), Linda Duquette (Danny), Jack Borland (Lorna) and by her predeceased brother Ron Borland (Jean). Her proudest accomplishments were rooted in her family. Joan was a talented knitter and quilter, and was a lover of animals and gardening. Joan has been cremated, which will be followed by a graveside service at a later date. In memory of Joan, donations can be made to the Avril Wilshire Fine Arts Scholarship or the NSPCA (forms available at The ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne). Thank you to Ryan Torkos for his care and empathy in handling the arrangements. A very special, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Qawi for her extraordinary care and compassion, and for always going above and beyond her call of profession.
