Obituary of Anna Nixon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Anne (Anna) Nixon (nee Smith) at Rapelje Lodge on Friday, January 20, 2017 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Eric Nixon. She will be lovingly remembered by her children John, David (Catharine) and Rosemary Nixon, and her grandchildren Allison, Brian and Emily. Also survived by sisters-in-law Ruby and Moreen, as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends in Canada, Australia, the United States and Scotland. Predeceased by her parents Mary and Edward Smith and her brother Edward Smith. Anna was born in Coatsbridge, Scotland. She completed her midwifery training in Scotland and in 1967 Anna, Eric and their three children came to Canada, aboard the ship Carinthia, seeking a new life. Anna found employment as a nurse at the Port Colborne Hospital, where she delivered many Port Colborne babies. She was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church, as well as the Catholic Women’s League. Anna lived a full life and is now at peace, reunited with the love of her life Eric. A special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Rapelje Lodge for their excellent care and compassion shown to Anna. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, 123 King Street, Port Colborne, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
